Summer, 2008. Get ready to Synchronize. Moodgadget and Ghostly International team up to bring you The Synchronicity Suite, the exhilarating sequel to 2006’s blockbuster compilation, The Rorschach Suite, that is unlike anything you’ve ever heard before.
iTunes gave Rorschach a veritable two thumbs up, cementing its place in the top 15 electronic albums of 2006, with two consecutive artist spotlights, and one of the year’s top electronic songs, Mux Mool’s, Lost and Found.
Since that fateful year, Mux Mool and fellow Moodgadget musicians, The Reflecting Skin and JDSY have starred in, Ghostly Swim, this spring’s goodwill mega-hit, co-produced by Ghostly International and Adult Swim. The trio make a triumphant return to Moodgadget for The Synchronicity Suite.
They are joined by fellow stars, Wisp, Small Sails, Benoit Pioulard and an extraordinary new cast, including pop sensation D. Gookin, experimental rockers Brael, and lo-fi piano virtuoso Praveen (courtesy of the Music Related label). 19 artists in all work in synchronicity over 80 pulse-pounding minutes to expose the diversity in electronic music. Are you ready to Synchronize?

BRAEL / TOKYO BLOODWORM - Living Language - ALBUM OF THE WEEK on BOOMKAT

April 28th, 2008

Brael Tokyo Bloodworm

ALBUM OF THE WEEK
BRAEL / TOKYO BLOODWORM - Living Language
Moteer
CD // £7.99
HOME LISTENING / MODERN CLASSICAL
Catalogue Number: MOTEER013CD

*FIRST 100 COPIES COME WITH A LOVELY INDIVIDUALLY PACKAGED, STAMPED
AND HAND NUMBERED BONUS CD FEATURING 4 EXCLUSIVE RE-WORKINGS FROM THE
REMOTE VIEWER!!!!* Following on from last week’s digital sampler, the
Moteer label deliver this gorgeous album from new signings Brael/Tokyo
Bloodworm who combine intricate sound treatments with elements of
dense, reduced shoegaze, lilting pop and breathless drones with an
exquisite attention to detail. The scene is set perfectly on opening
track “Saturn Shine”, slowly coming to life with diffuse vocal
whispers layered in a manner reminiscent of Grouper’s fabulous “Way
Their Crept” album, before distilled, shimmering glockenspiel and
vibraphone make your spine tingle. Stephanie Flood’s vocals finally
emerge from this velvet arrangement with a subdued, almost downcast
undercurrent that provides the track with depth and dimension,
bringing to mind bands like The Cranes or Slowdive merged with the
other-worldly bliss of Japanese home listening from the likes of Piana
or Gutevolk. It’s immeasurably moving, beautiful music. “Golden Mean
Rectangle”, meanwhile, introduces an acoustic guitar to the equation,
with a swirl of instruments and found sounds coming across like
something off the recent Philip Jeck album strummed along to under a
tree in the middle of the desert - intimate and somehow disjointed
music evocative of youth and long, slowly unfolding summers. One of
album’s loveliest moments, however, comes with “Seed” - a fractured
love song taken straight out of the Remote Viewer school of thought,
revolving around melodies frayed and caressed by miniature processes
and aural degradation, the barely audible hum of machines offering an
indefinable backdrop for cascading keys and a stream of words half
spoken, half sung. Brael / Tokyo Bloodworm have provided Moteer with
the most sumptuous and fragile 40 minutes in their catalogue to date -
and another debut we absolutely implore you to discover. ESSENTIAL
PURCHASE.

SINK - A Night of Electronica in Two Movements - NY - April 26th features 2 Moodgadget artists

April 18th, 2008

Praveen and RJ Valeo

Saturday April 26th
SINK @ Reboot
A Night of Electronica in Two Movements
XELA | CLOUTIER | PANDATONE | INSIDEOUT | PRAVEEN | VALEO | CHIKA | ARIKAN | SMITH
37 Avenue A (betw. 2nd and 3rd St)
$5 / 10pm - 4am+

For this edition of SINK we have put together a very eclectic lineup of music and visuals to be performed in two movements.

Movement One

To begin our night we have Percussion Lab’s infamous Praveen know for his tasty hip hop and laptop-pop selections. Following Praveen we have Music Related’s Pandatone performing some of the most beautiful noise to come out of a laptop since Finezze was last in town. And to close out the first Movement we have Type Records’ man-in-charge John Xela performing a very special DJ set of some of the most emotive and moving electronica to ever grace the sound systems of NYC. John rarely DJs state-side, so this is a very rare opportunity to get an earful of what the head of one of the UK’s most respected electronica labels throes down.

Movement Two

Following Xela we have RJ Valeo performing as Isomer Transition. For SINK Valeo will be mixing his own productions of recent and past into his Live PA performing a special 2 hour long live set, blurring the lines between experimental, minimal, live pa and dj performance. Closing out the night we have an amazing booking of Detroit’s Eric Cloutier doing a tag-team with Clink Record’s Insideout. This is an idea that Eric and Grant have been working on for sometime and they are excited to have the opportunity to realize their joint vision of what a proper minimal techno tag-team is. This performance promises to be the highlight of the evening as we have arranged with the venue’s management to allow us to go past the usual 4am stop point for the evening. How late we go, no one knows.

Visuals & Installations

For this evening we have booked two of New York’s best visualists, Chika and Burak Arikan to crate an enveloping visual environment. Chika, with her minimalist geometric patterns, has performed along side artists such as John Tejada, Bubblyfish, Sawako, and countless others. MIT Media Lab graduate and Ars Electronica presenter Burak Arikan has been a major player in the field of data visualization, lending his visual wizardry to (amongst others) Richie Hawtin for several of his Minus tours and shows. David Smith, an acclaimed NYC artist and Warp Records colaborator will present Indexed Color, a new installation of video and slide projection. The work engages with a variety of ways of looking at and thinking about color, from Bob Ross’s relation to color field painters, to color wheel aesthetics, to the effect of colored light on photographic film.
